It's closing time!

February 1, 2005

The outside doesn't look much different, but boy, are there changes inside! Everything's been painted, the countertops have been installed, as well as all of the sinks and faucets. The electrical and lighting work has also pretty much been completed. The tile work is all done (floors, bathrooms and fireplace), but the carpeting and wood floor (in the office) are still to be done (next week).

Most recently, the kitchen appliances were delivered, and John has installed the shelving around the fireplace and started the window seat/bookshelves for LeElla's room.

I've got some big plans slated for right after closing. The first weekend is a painting weekend... we'll be giving most of the interior walls lots of color. We'll also be putting up some ceiling fans as well as some track lighting (for over the fireplace) and the stained glass hanging lights for over the pool table. After that, I'm having 8 pallettes of pavers delivered which I'll be using for the front sidewalk and the planter beds (yes, I'm doing the landscaping myself). The following weekend, I'm having 12 pallettes of floritam sod delivered to be spread all around the house to try and keep the dirt from washing away. Of course, at some point, I'll actually need to move in. February's going to be a very busy month for me.

Here are a few pictures of the interior...

Here's the chandelier in the front foyer. I had a very small lighting allowance, so I didn't get too fancy, but I'm very happy with my selection.
OK... it's just a dishwasher... but if you'd been without your own dishwasher for 2 1/2 years, you'd be excited too.
This is one of two vanities in the master bath... the other one is on the opposite wall. There will be a mirror above the sink, and I'll eventually be putting some kind of shelving in the corner (to the left of the cabinets).
I know... not a very exciting shot... but here's the guest bathtub (I was concentrating mostly on the fixtures).
I've even got a sink outside! They had originally picked out a different, smaller sink, but they accidentally cut the hole too big, so they found a bigger sink. If I ever get a pool, I'll make this area a little fancier, but for now, it'll work great for potting plants and cleaning up after working in the yard.

Two A/C units... count 'em... two!

Here's the view of the kitchen and family room from the breakfast nook area. The room feels really big from this perspective.

And here's the fireplace! The tile guy did a really nice job with the details... those little square tiles in the corners are real slate. As of yesterday, there are now built-in shelves surrounding the fireplace, but I'm afraid I don't have any pictures of it yet.

History

Here are my notes for previous dates...

Overview

My new house is a custom home being built by Richardson Homes, Inc. on a 2 1/2 acre lot in unincorporated Lee County. The lot is located in an area of Lee County that's really a notch in the northern part of Cape Coral, so it's pretty much as close to Cape Coral as you can get, without actually being in Cape Coral. I'm in a small development (16 lots) called "Las Lomas".

The house is a bit bigger than I was originally planning... the home owners' association required a minimum of 2500 sq. ft. living area, but I ended up with 3464 sq. ft. However, about 500 sq. ft. are comprised of the bonus room over the garage (what will be my media room).

This is the elevation, looking directly at the front door. This will actually be the view of the house from the corner of the lot, since the front door will face the corner. This is the first floor... it's kind of hard to see the details, but essentially the wing at the bottom right is my master suite and office, the rooms at the top are the other 2 bedrooms, and in between are the family room, kitchen (with nook), dining room and living room. The media room is a second floor above the garage.

If you want to see what convinced me that I picked the right floor plan for me, take a look at this.
